The trip to kings dominion was really fun even though my family and I got there late – we even brought along the rain. Haha. I enjoyed not just the water and two rides but the wonderful time I got to spend with the girls.
For me, the rides and attractions at kings dominion are similar to God’s blessings in so many ways.
First, the rides and attractions in kings dominion require us to fall in line and wait for the thrill. And that is similar to God’s blessings in such a way that we have to wait for them because God has His own perfect timing. We may have to suffer while in line and waiting but we know we’ll eventually get there.
Second, the rides for me seem scary (I have fear of heights). But like God’s blessings, it takes risks and faith to get them. And in the end, we know the risks are worth it. Just like in surrendering everything to Him – we may be risking the things we want but we all know well that God’s will is always the best.
Third, the rides and attractions in kings dominion may really be thrilling and nice to look at but we will not be contented unless we try it – same thing with God’s blessings. They may be good to imagine and think of, but satisfaction won’t settle in without experiencing the blessings first hand.
Fourth, other people may tell us about the thrill but it is so much better if we’re the one who experienced it ourselves. Fifth, once you experience the thrill, you can’t seem to get enough of it. Same thing with God’s blessings, once we start receiving them, we will long for more.
Lastly, everyone gets to experience the thrill but we all have different stories, opinions and views about it. God’s blessings are available for everyone who obeys but we have unique encounters of these blessings and we use these encounters to lift up one another. =)
Praise God for the time we had in Kings dominion! (rain or rain. haha not rain or shine)
Ecclesiastes 3:12 – 13
I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor — it is the gift of God.
I'm a sinner saved by the grace of God. More about me? Visit the "It's Not About Me" page. Thanks!
Whoa, that’s an awesome analogy. I would never expect to compare an experience in amusement park to one’s walk with God. This is a really good piece of writing!
thanks Jeff. =) we were actually asked by our youth leader to compare the attractions to God’s blessings. and mine was kinda different than others’ work. they compared each ride to God’s blessings, mine was kinda deeper and general.
There are ups and downs in the Christian life, as well, just as there are ups and downs on amusement park rides. Yet, through it all, the track is beneath us, keeping us secure and going in the right direction. Jesus is our Track. I am thankful for Him. And I thank you for such a thoughtful, practical piece. God bless!
